Back Pain can cripple you. Or it can just feel as if you’ve been crippled. Pain can occur anywhere from between your shoulder blades to around your waist to the lower back where you bend before you sit.
Back Pain, as with neck pain, can be caused by a number of things and it can cause even more problems. We use our back and hips with nearly every movement. One of the most common causes of back pain is an impingement of the sciatic nerve. This large nerve moves through the sciatic bone, down the back of the leg and ends in the foot. As it travels there are branches that reach different parts of the leg.
In the gluteal area there is a small muscle called the piriformis muscle. This small muscle is situation on top of the sciatic nerve. When men carry their wallets in only one side of their back pockets this small muscle gets pushed on. That, in turn, pushes on the sciatic nerve causing pain. Gentlemen, switch your wallet from one side to the other if you find that you have one sided pain that coincides with your wallet side.
Other causes of back pain are commonly lack of movement and wearing high heels to bulging discs or degenerative discs in the spine. The low back, as with the neck, is a commonly weakened area. Once damaged it has a tendency to come back time and again.
Acupuncture is very effective in maintaining pain levels. It improves blood flow and releases endorphins to decrease and eliminate pain. Electro-acupuncture and cupping are also highly effective ways to get back pain under control. If you have been suffering from back pain, be it minor or debilitating, come in for an evaluation.
